What is a 72hr Film Race & Why We Entered – Peak Adventure Media – Our 72hr Horror Film

A 72 hour film race is just what it sounds like: each team has exactly 72 hours to develop, record, and edit a short film based on the theme provided at the start of the race. If you are successful in the race there’s a lot of work that follows. However, it’s safe to say that once it starts, you will be fully immersed into the race with no time for anything else. Once the clock strikes twelve (8:00pm MST in our case), the game is on.

Chelsey has skills that stretch all over the map. From teaching graphic design and animation to guiding rafting tours down the Ahansel River in Morocco, she is always ready to learn more and explore something new. She keeps up to date with the rapidly changing media industry by researching upcoming methods and practising new techniques to improve her skills. She has pursued training in whitewater all over the world – even if it meant learning Japanese. She relaxes in her downtime by doing yoga and playing the ukulele.

The 72hr Horror Film Race Stinger

At the start of the race, we received the theme (jealousy), the prop (a cane), and the action (meditation). These were all mandatory to write into our script as we planned the story and developed a structured workflow for the next 72 hours. Prior to that, we could only do as much as plan potential filming locations and connect with a few amateur actors. Once we received the prompts, we set our focus for the next 4 days (with a bit of wine and red bull).

As a small team of three we knew we had a challenge on our hands. The question is, did we know how much of a challenge? Not really. We entered to push our team and expose weaknesses to which we could work towards improving. Any team placed under high levels of stress is soon going to find flaws and weaknesses, much like a beam of wood put under tremendous pressure.
