In being such, having the time and finding a place to do anything outdoorsy can be a daunting task for someone having to deal with both the harshness of winter and the ever-spreading urban sprawl of the city itself. But, whenever there is a hint of nice weather, be it in early February or late November, Torontoians are quick to flock outside. For any lover of nature, try to experience the great outdoors at these five outdoor hotspots, all within an hour’s drive from Toronto.

Toronto Islands

Located just a 15-minute ferry ride south of the city lies the Toronto Islands. Many people check out the Toronto Islands for its superior view of the Toronto skyline and Lake Ontario. The Toronto Islands consist of 15 small islands each with their own beaches and a plethora of parks. There are also many nature trails, bike paths, and parks to get your escape from the city. Evergreen Brickworks

Known as being one of the most successful global showcases for green design, the Evergreen Brickworks is a network of trails that run throughout the Don Valley Ravine. It is an award-winning public space that hosts a famous Saturday farmer’s market that everyone should check out for fresh produce and locally produced goods. There are many different areas of the park that provide its visitors with a diverse range of natural features, such as the Childrens’ Garden, the wetlands, and the redevelopment of historic kiln buildings. This spot is perfect for anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors in the heart of Toronto.

Tommy Thompson Park

Tommy Thompson Park is one of the most southern points of the city and eventually breaks out into parts of the Toronto Islands. The park is located on a narrow peninsula that is carved out by nearly 10 km of paved trails for hiking and cycling. For some, Tommy Thompson Park is the perfect urban getaway for scenic views of the Toronto skyline without having to take the ferry to the Toronto Islands. Tommy Thompson is home to a nature centre and bird research station where you can learn more about the nature of the park.

Scarborough Bluffs

The first time you visit the Scarborough Bluffs it might feel like you’re in a different part of the world. Located just east of Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario lies this geological wonder that serves as a relaxing retreat for Toronotoians looking to go for a quick adventure. The bluffs are an escarpment that boasts some of the most beautiful views you can get around Toronto, especially at Bluffer’s Park beach. High Park

One of the city’s most famous green areas is High Park, the largest park in Toronto. This park is home to some spectacular waterfalls, winding rivers, and blooming flowers.
